Customer Rating: Summary: Very happy with this webcam Comment: This webcam was extremely easy to set up. It is a true plug and play. Have had it for a month and have really enjoyed it. I have even used it to create small video's to send to our family.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product but expensive, equal quality cheaper option is... Comment: Logitech quickcam pro 9000 is the same thing as vision pro for mac !!! and it is 30 USD cheaper !!!!! both are plug and play. they do not work with yahoo messenger (MAC OS X 10.4) but works with AIM/ichat.
Customer Rating: Summary: Question about the camera Comment: I just got this camera to use with Skype, however is there any way you can use it for snapshots? I didn't really realize when purchasing it that it didn't include that feature.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works great under Ubuntu Linux with skype! Comment: I bought this camera so that I could actually use it with Ubuntu Linux (8.10 Intrepid) & not a MAC. After some research it turns out the difference between this version and the QuickCam Vision Pro 9000 was that the autofocusing is done in the hardware of this camera and not the driver. So I wasn't sure if the 9000 had autofocusing support in the uvcvideo driver under Linux so I got this one instead.
Picture quality is very sharp, and the microphone is awesome! I do all my skype calls with it now, even the audio only ones. The video quality is better then a lot of the cams that come in laptops or integrated in monitors today.
Also sits on top of my monitory great! But if you have a Notebook, you should buy the Quickcam Pro for Notebook (which I have also, also excellent Linux support), as this one wouldn't sit on a Notebook very well, it also really isn't intended for travel.
Highly recommend for Linux users.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lots of hype, liitle substance Comment: If you're looking for a webcam that works as a webcam, this one is fine.
If you're thinking of getting this because you can record HD video (or any video at all) or because you hope to take 2MP snapshots, this is a HUGE disappointment.
You'll notice that there is no software. This is presented as a positive, making the webcam "plug and play". The problem is that if you don't have expensive third party software, you cannot record or take pictures with this camera at the quality levels advertised.
The minimum requirement for this camera is Mac OS 10.4.11, which I have. When you go to Logitech's website, they tell you that to record video, you should use Photo Booth, which it claims comes with 10.4.11. This is NOT TRUE. This program is not included with 10.4.11.
As a second option, if you have the Pro version of Quicktime, Logitech says that you can use that. I have this program, so I followed their directions. The recorded video was awful! I achieved about 2 frames per second! Really! It's sketchy, the audio doesn't sync with the video, it's just a mess!
Horrible camera for recording or video blogging! Avoid at all costs!
